Mountain Sports School - Instructor Employment

Welcome Instructor Applicants!

Thank you for your interest in working at the Jackson Hole Mountain Sport School (MSS).

We have a limited number of full and part-time instructor positions available for the 2014-2015 winter season and we will only consider applicants who can demonstrate a passion for teaching and who have the appropriate on-mountain skills in their discipline.

Required Traits

Instructor applicants should also possess the following traits:

  • An outgoing and engaging personality
  • The desire to teach students of all ages including 3-6 year-olds, 7-14 year-olds and adults
  • The willingness and physical ability to teach beginner through advanced lessons
  • Be motivated to do a job well and hold a positive attitude while striving to attain a higher level of professionalism at all times
  • The ability to lead and demonstrate active leadership under all conditions
  • The capacity for sound decision making with an emphasis on individual and group safety

Qualified New Hire

If you are an experienced professional with a minimum of a PSIA-AASI Level One certification (or equivalent) and at least 3 years full-time teaching experience, then you may be considered for an instructing position with the JHMSS without attending our Instructor Training Camp (ITC).

To be considered an experienced applicant you must be able to show evidence of current certification and provide references and a copy of your last season Ski School evaluation.

Application Process

All experienced applicants must complete an online application. The deadline for these applications is Aug 15. Interested applicants should complete the online application and submit their supporting documents as soon as possible to ensure ample time for processing.

H2b Applicants

JHMR Mountain Sports School is no longer accepting H2b visa applicants this year. We will be accepting a limited number of J-1 visa applicants.


If you are not successful at gaining employment as a qualified applicant then you may still apply as an "Inexperienced New Hire" by attending the 2013-2014 Instructor Training Camp (ITC). See Inexperienced New Hire for more information.

All successful applicants must be available for Qualified New Hire Training December 10, 2014. Successful applicants will also be required to attend trainnig for the program into which they are hired.

Time Commitment

You may be required to start work immediately following training depending upon levels of business. It is mandatory for all employees to be available to work our peak periods.


* Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA)/American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) or foreign equivalent.

Inexperienced New Hire

Applicants who have not taught skiing or snowboarding or who are certified Level 1 instructors with less than three years of full-time teaching experience are required to complete an online application and attend the Instructor Training Camp (ITC) to be held November 30-December 3, 2014.

Jobs will be offered to candidates based upon performance at the ITC and availability of positions within the JHMSS. The number hired will depend on the number of returning instructors to the JHMSS and business outlook for the 2014-2015 winter season. We will not be deciding on the final hiring numbers until the last day of the ITC.


All successful applicants must be available for "Inexperienced New Hire" training December 7-10, 2014.

Time Commitment

You may be required to start work immediately following training depending upon levels of business. It is mandatory for all employees to be available to work our peak periods.


* Inexperienced new hires who are hired through the Instructor Training Camp (ITC) will initially be trained to teach levels 1-4 only.

** All Experienced new hires must be trained on our terrain before being assigned lessons.

Mountain Sports School Peak Periods

December 21, 2014 - January 4, 2015 including Christmas Day
February 14 - February 22, 2015
March 15 - April 5, 2015
